A moving story about one boy’s refugee experience in the Syrian Civil War and the birds who help him on the road to emotional healing.
Escaping the bombing of his Syrian neighborhood, Sami follows a long line of people trudging through the hills to a refugee camp. There in the tent city, the people patch together new lives, planting gardens, opening up small shops, cooking, and going to school. But Sami cannot participate. All he can think of is his beloved pet pigeons that he was forced to leave behind. Even in school he can´t paint his birds; he covers the paper with black. What will it take for Sami to begin the healing process? (Verlag)
