Introduction

The Situational Approach is a dynamic and evolving pedagogical concept that places children’s real-life situations at the center of educational practice. Developed in the 1970s in Germany, this approach empowers children to learn through meaningful engagement with their environment, fostering autonomy, social responsibility, and critical thinking.

At the Institute for the Situational Approach (ISTA), part of the International Academy Berlin (INA), we are dedicated to advancing the theoretical and practical development of this approach. Through research, professional development, and collaboration with early childhood educators, ISTA continuously refines and expands the framework of the Situational Approach.
